Veliko Tarnovo Backpacking

Veliko Tarnovo is a great city to visit, being the medieval capital of Bulgaria, and built on the side of a hill.
The world famous Tsarvets Fortress, with it's light & sound show is an amazing sight.

Probably the best hostel view of the tsarvets fortress with it's light show is from the Hikers Hostel in Veliko Tarnovo.
From the roof terrace of the hostel you can sit back, relax with a beer, and view the show. It is also a great vantage point for photographers, though from experience I would say that you need a good zoom lens, as my small digital camera did not produce close enough results.

There are a number of other hostels in the town, though the only other one I have stayed in is the Hostel Pashov, near the famous Gurko Street. Hostel Pashov is a bit lower down the hill, and closer to the town centre. It is run by a father & son and is basically an appartment to rent, rather than a hostel in the well known sense.

When I stayed in March 2005, I was their first guest to have booked over the Internet, and had the whole place to myself (they live in the house next door). It is restored with a classy traditional bulgarian look, and has spectacular views of the Lower part of the town.

Has anyone stayed in the other hostels in Veliko Tarnovo?
