Cutting the cost of fuel for your car and being green

With green issues increasingly being in peoples mind, there are ways of making your car travel more environmentally friendly.

You could enhance your green credentials by going out and buying a brand new highly economical car, such as the new VW Polo Bluemotion. This would look great on your drive, but would cost you quite a bit of money, including depreciation.

Alternatively you could run an old car, which may produce more co2 emissions, but has not damaged the planet recently, by being built using polluting, energy using manufacturing.

Keeping an old car on the road, rather than scrapping it and buying a Brand new one, is a form of green recycling, especially if you maintain it using parts removed from scrapped vehicles.

To make you old car or van even more kinder to the environment, you could make your own Bio Diesel. Obviously you will need a suitable diesel car.

Greener still would be to run you diesel car on vegetable oil (preferably filtered recycled from a restaurant).

Car such as the normaly aspirated Citroen Zx diesel are easily converted to run on this, and in the Uk you are allowed to produce 2000 litres a year for personal use without paying fuel tax. I am not yet sure of the situation in Bulgaria.
